Life is a Playground

Playground

Life is a playground. Today, play and have fun. Life took away our childhood, but there’s no rule that says we can’t Benjamin Button this shit. If you faced adult problems a child, it’s time to take back what was stolen. Remember, how to play make believe? Play on life’s monkey bars, and risk those scary slides. Yes, the bullies still exist. But you are wiser now, and can see the pain in their eyes. They don’t know how to be kind. But, you do. You’ve lived life in reverse. You’ve already faced death, abuse, suffering, loneliness, abandonment, and pain; experienced by the lucky only as elders. Now is your chance to simply have fun. Extend and flex your legs, feel the wind in your hair on this swing of naivety and hope, joy and optimism. Your troubles now, are nothing compared to what you overcame when you were small. You’re much stronger now, and your power is birthed, carefree, on the playground.

Some of us have learned to take life seriously, because we learned from a young age that survival is a serious matter. We lived so long with our defenses up that we forgot, or never learned in the first place, how to let our guards down and simply exist. Despite having escaped from our childhood tortures, we still find ourselves in battle, even when there isn’t one. We open our eyes in the morning and begin searching for the dangers. Today, try something new. Stop looking for the perils. Instead of putting on your armor today, put on your sneakers. And go to the playground.
